UPDATE: Note to our readers. Harley passed away on December 25th, 2013. We tried EVERYTHING under the sun for our sweet kitty. May he rest in peace forever, he was and still is a great loss. Our family, months later, is still grieving.

In December of 2011, our  kitty Harley began vomiting and having  diarrhea uncontrollably. Up until then, he  was fine, happy and seemingly healthy right up until the incident, so this came to a big surprise to us. We did not wait for another day to pass, and took Harley into the emergency clinic. Test results showed some over production of white cells and bacteria in the intestines, and he was prescribed antibiotics and Probiotics. I was shocked that the vet also reported that he had lost 4 lbs. My husband and I said “What, when , how?”.  The vet really had no explanation. And so the journey began.

Harley , our kitty, continued to have vomiting, and the series of tests to follow became not only maddening, expensive,  as well as time consuming. Maddening because the Vet could not help Harley unless a  diagnoses could be made, and meanwhile Harley was loosing weight quickly!  Time consuming because he would howl in pain at different times of the day and night, so we would stop whatever we were doing to calm him and comfort him . Maddening because we could not handle knowing we were powerless to help him, and we observed  him deteriorating rather  quickly.  The Vet ran blood panels and tested Harley’s  liver, kidneys, heart, they did x-rays,  even tested for thyroid disease and cancer but  all the tests came back normal. Believe me there was nothing normal about his condition. Meanwhile it was getting harder and harder to watch this once  healthy , sweet, active and loving kitty , our kid, suffering  like this, and 3 weeks into this we still had no diagnosis. Finally we went to a specialist, more tests, blood work, urinalysis, fecal analysis, and and ultrasound of his lungs , stomach and intestinal track.  This 4 hour Vet visit would now reveal  the  lower intestine  was inflamed, this condition is known as  IBD. (Intestinal Bowel Disorder). To top it off, my husband was called away from home and I was left to cover all the night shifts with Harley, which led to my own personal emotional wall due to  exhaustion

Now I won’t bore you further with the details of the past  8 weeks, but I will say this, just like people, all animals respond differently to treatment.  It has been a roller coaster ride, and Harley requires  a lot attention, and the good news is this:  He is getting better all the time, and is practically back to his old personality and energy! Far from healthy, but we are finally  moving in the right direction.

*NOTE* Harley was prescribed a diet called LIMITED INGREDIENT.  He was prescribed Limited Ingredient  Venison, Rabbit or Duck. What do all three of these (3) animals have in common?  You got it! NONE of these animals eat GMO Grains ,grass, soy or rice.  After careful investigation,  believe that Harley’s issues were caused by GMO foods. After carefully researching GMO’s and pets, I found that my instincts are correct. Statistics are that in the past few years, IBD has gone up in pets 40%. My own specialist stated that 60% of the patients that walk in her door are IBD.  Is this a coincidence????

Listen, IBD may sound like something minor, when in fact, it  is  lethal if it goes  untreated, especially for your pets.Remember, it is NOT your fault! So please relieve yourselves of the guilt when your pet does get ill!

Harley , our beloved kitty!

GMO’s Kill.

Let’s talk about the CAUSE of IBD:

http://www.carolonpets.com/blog/inflammatory-bowel-disease-ibd/

“Inflammatory Bowel Disease is a chronic condition that affects the function of stomach and or intestines. Abnormally large numbers of blood cells invade the bowel which interferes with digestion and absorption of food. The intestines are unable to absorb nutrients from the diet; therefore the food eaten is not able to be utilized by the body. When these cells invade the stomach and initial part of the intestine, vomiting is the main sign. Loose stool and diarrhea are the predominant signs when these cells invade the lower small intestine. Involvement of the colon results in a mucous diarrhea often flecked with bright red blood. Any or the entire intestinal tract from the stomach and small intestine to the colon may be involved. IBD is the leading cause of chronic vomiting, diarrhea and weight loss in cats and dogs. Middle aged and older cats are most prone.

“The underlying cause of this disease is not known. Immune system defects, food allergies and stress have been incriminated but have not been confirmed. Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP) has been associated with certain cases”.

I personally had already  suspected that IBD  would have to be stress related, and in part it is exactly that, as Harley is a rescue that we adopted 7 years ago and he took a long time to trust us. Taking up a year of residence at the rescue caused him to be stressed as well as afraid of humans. We have since overcome trust issues and he has been the coolest cat ever since.   The second factor for IBD is really my main concern, something known as food allergies.  Now that stumped me, because Harley is an organic eater, and he has never shown signs of food allergies, other than drippy eyes once in a while. But cats are smart furry creatures, and if something makes them sick (vomit, etc.) they generally develop a dislike for that type of food and they tend to just stop eating it all together. What caused Harley’s “food allergies”?

I dug deeper, and found studies to support my theories. GMO foods were responsible for not only Irritable Bowel Disorder, but a plethora of other diseases ranging from Crones, to intestinal cancer.

We have been working with Dr. Wil Spencer of http://bodyelectrician.com/natures-chelation We suggest you contact him if any of your animals (domestic or FARM) are showing symptoms, because the first symptoms lead to death pretty quickly! You can save your animals life NOW!

“The line-up of mega-pet food companies that are now owned by multinational corporations is a long one indeed. Nestle` owns Alpo, Fancy Feat, Friskies, Mighty Dog and Ralston Purina products such as Pro Plan, Dog Chow, and Purina One. Heinz owns 9 Lives, Amore, Gravy Train and Kibble n-Bits and Nature’s Recipe. Colgate-Palmolive owns Hill’s Science Diet.

Procter and Gamble own Iams and Eukanuba, and Mars owns Kal Kan, Mealtime, Pedigree, Walthams, Sheba, and Nutro.  For a host of reasons I prefer to rely on alternative pet food companies that are not part of the food and drug industry complex, and that are making a concerted effort to produce wholesome pet foods that are not based primarily on human food and beverage industry byproducts and on ingredients condemned for human consumption; and that contain GM free (not genetically engineered), and ideally organically certified food ingredients, and produce from farmed animals raised humanely. It should be noted that I have no financial ties with any pet food company.

Other credible pet  food manufacturers who are marketing highly nutritious cat and dog foods, many of whom can back their various ingredient claims of locally produced; human-grade food quality; ingredients from humanely treated farm animals, and no genetically engineered ingredients, synthetic preservatives and artificial coloring, include: Flint River Ranch, Eagle Pack’s Holistic Select Pet Promise, Life’s Abundance, Sojourner Farms, Origen  from Champion Pet Foods, Fromm Family Pet Food LLLC, Natural Balance, Old Mother Hubbard’s Wellness, Nature’s Logic, Solid Gold, Breeder’s Choice, Canidae and Felidae, Evangers, Merrick, Pet Promise, Azmira Holistic Animal Care, and Wysong. Many have their own manufacturing facilities, lowering the risk of cross-contamination as when different companies contract out to one processing plant.”

From the book   “Seeds of Deception “

http://www.seedsofdeception.com/Public/SeedsofDeception/index.cfm

“What the biotech industry doesn’t want you to know.

The explosive exposé Seeds of Deception reveals how industry manipulation and political collusion-not sound science-allow dangerous genetically engineered food into your daily diet. Company research is rigged, alarming evidence of health dangers is covered up, and intense political pressure applied.

Chapters read like adventure stories:

  • Scientists were offered bribes or threatened. Evidence was stolen. Data was omitted or distorted.
  • Government employees who complained were harassed, stripped of responsibilities, or fired.
  • Laboratory rats fed a GM crop developed stomach lesions and seven of the 40 died within two weeks. The crop was approved without further tests.
  • When a top scientist tried to alert the public about his alarming discoveries, he lost his job and was silenced with threats of a lawsuit.”

                             The Wisdom of Animals

  • “Mice avoid eating GM foods when they have the chance, as do rats, cows, pigs, geese, elk, squirrels, and others. What do these animals know that we don’t? At the end of most chapters is a one-page story describing how farmers, students, and scientists discovered that animals refuse to eat the same GM foods that we consume everyday.
  • Excerpt
  • The Washington Post reported that laboratory mice, usually happy to munch on tomatoes, turned their noses up at the genetically modified FlavrSavr tomato. Scientist Roger Salquist said of his tomato, “I gotta tell you, you can be Chef Boyardee and mice are still not going to like them.” The mice were eventually force fed the tomato through gastric tubes and stomach washes. Several developed stomach lesions; seven of forty died within two weeks. The tomato was approved without further tests.”

21 thoughts on “GMO’s and your Pets! Alert to all pet owners, GMO’s Kill.”
  1. IBD is caused by commercial pet foods, full stop. GMOs are only a tiny part of what is wrong with commercial foods. These foods create disease in all the animals unfortunate enough to be fed them. It does not matter whether a cat owner faithfully avoids GMO-crop fed animals or pays absolutely no attention to this, if a cat is switched to a diet of only raw meat, reversal of disease is almost guaranteed. It is shameful and appalling that vets continue to recommend commercial foods while making money treating the sicknesses they cause. There is a conflict of interest here, and vets need to be called on it. Imagine a world where vets put all their efforts into prevention of disease instead of what they’re doing now, which is the opposite. The AVMA officially opposes raw feeding. How can they support something that could potentially put them out of business?

  2. After lots of research and having lost many beloved babes to cancer, kidney failure, I haven’t found any companies that end up being very good. I began feeding them homemade food trying to avoid all hormone induced, antibiotic induced and gmo ingredients. Research any supplements that you add as well making sure they are USA, non-gmo, organic and that the manufacturer/growers are reputable. You never fully get over the loss when their lives seem so short. I pray a lot for mine as well. Definitely seen some miracles that way.

    1. What exactly are you feeding them, are you cooking your own foods for your pets? You mentioned that “companies are not very good”. Can you please explain this as well, which companies are you referring to?

  3. I think GMO pollens from the plants are doing something to our pets. I worked at an animal hospital for a couple years and it was crazy how many people had pets with really bad seasonal allergies. And we definitely noticed a difference with the food.

    1. Jenn,
Thank you so much for this comment, can you tell me what you switched the allergy animals to? What foods? And did you work for a regular vet, or a specialist please, very important questions ….
I look forward to your answers!

      Roxy

  4. My cat Leo had similar symptoms. After calling the vet and being advised of all the tests to determine the source of the problem I took matters into my own hands. I eliminated dry food from Leo’s diet and began a wet food only protocal. The first full week of this change I added probiotics to the food. He is fine and more playful than he had been in years.

  5. I read through this thread and found that you listed Canidae as one food that is non GMO. But I read the ingrediants and Soy was listed somewhere but if I’m right soy is GMO produced? I have my dog on Canidae. But I’m not sure it’s the best food for him. He’s always itchy, yet his coat is good. He’s developing bumps all over him. He’s old yes…but now I’m worried that I’ve been feeding him the wrong food! I want to switch to Nature’s Logic…maybe a switch would be good. I have to buy dog food tomorrow and am really thinking of switching. Help anyone…email me at ranchlady11369@yahoo.com and tell me what you think of Canidae…or is it my dog just needs another food!?

  6. could you please tell us what pet food is safe for our pets or what we should look for on the ingredients lable so we can look for our selves

    1. We have Harley on (brand) “Natural Balance “ Venison (Limited Diet) Wet & Dry food Same in DUCK as well. You can also add Rabbit.

Both are healthy as you can get for the corporate manufacturer…….to add to his diet we have gone to Dr. Wil Spencer , and that is what is making the BIGGER difference. Dr. Spencer is coming on the show in an hour.

Also, I am simply explaining what is working for HARLEY under Dr. Spencer’s recommendations, as well as Harley’s Specialist who is here locally.

  7. Thanks so much for this. I was losing my best buddy Skye. Jeffery Smith’s most recent film got me to google organic gmo free cat food and I found this site. Thank you thank you. Skye’s symptoms seemed so similar to Harley’s with nothing found wrong with her stools (other than color, consistency and odor) or her bloodwork. Vets did not what to do other than send me home with very expensive food she refused to touch. (now I know why after reading this and looking at the ingredients) So I put her on limited ingredient, grain free dry food that has probiotics in it. (Funny my nutritionist put me on a similar diet for leaky gut, candida, auto-immune thyroid) Skye is really coming back. She had similarly to Harley lost weight, 3 lbs of her 13 in a week. One day I noticed she was totally bony. She has stopped with the violent throw ups and her stools and gurgly intestines are normalizing. Her mood and activity and interest levels are starting to come back. She is already feeling less boney.
I hope Harley is doing well!

    1. We are so happy to hear that we could be of service to you! I personally am amazed at the rate of recovery that has poured into our site as well, and indeed you are on the right track! Congrats with Skye, what a beautiful name! Harley is coming along, we have also had the aid of Dr. Wil Spencer, more added pro and pre biotics and live micro-organisms to Harley’s diet that have been effective, and very inexpensive (especially compared to the vets recommended very expensive Limited diet foods that were 10 X the price of the organic foods we were feeding Harley prior to his “episodes of throwing up and runny stools”.
The same goes for HUMANS, as you may have discovered!
Just to let you know, Dr. Wil Spencer will be on our show this evening Tusday , September 18th , simply go to our home page and press PLAY on the player : show is at 8 EST tonight. We will address this and perhaps you wish to call in the show and give your wonderful progress! the show number is 347-688-2902.

I thank you so much for your communication with us, and indeed wish you ONLY the BEST!!!!

      Roxy Lopez

  8. I have a photo of my cat suffering from Morgellons disease. Horrific, if you want to see it please give me an email address to send it to. Through dealing with this disease myself for 23 years now I am able to treat him and at least keep the skin eruptions controlled.

  9. wow I was just thinking about GMO in pet foods today while I was at the pet store! Coincidence I think not. I avoid all foods made from GMO like the plague for myself and buy my cat what I think is healthy food. But how do I really know it is completely GMO free.

  10. seeds of destruction another good book seems to be many connections to gut problems and diet …a vet john symes aka dogtor j has written many papers on celiac and the toxic effects…dr don huber a soil biologist from perdue is worth a look..keep up the great work….if good people do nothing the bad will kill us all
