Jack’s most recent film entitled SUPERSTORM is a three-part British docudrama miniseries written and directed by Julian Simpson, about a group of scientists that try to divert and weaken hurricanes using cloud seeding. Superstorm originally aired on BBC ONE for 3 weeks, totaling three 59 minute episodes in April of 2007. Each episode was followed by a half-hour documentary on BBC TWO on extreme weather monitoring and forecasting, called The Science of Superstorms. The series was also on the Discovery Channel in the U.S. and Canada during the summer of 2007 Jack E. Smith was the executive producer for Discovery Channel. The miniseries was released on DVD in the United Kingdom on July 2, 2007. View it here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000P0JQ1Y

A brief summation of the film Superstorm:

It’s one of man’s greatest endeavours: to control the weather. But what if fantasy became reality? What would it mean for the human race? Who would have control of this immense power? In this BBC science-based thriller – from the team behind ‘Supervolcano’ – a group of scientists are asked to do just that. What happens if they succeed? Where can hurricanes be diverted to? Who decides who lives and who dies? Events take a sinister twist when an unidentified US agency hacks into the team’s computer and creates a disaster of unprecedented scale: a superstorm heading for New York…”

What makes SUPERSTORM so alarming is that it was released in 2005. Hurricane Sandy occurred in 2012. How did the writers of this film know the future that was about to unfold?

What was discussed on the show today?

Both guests discussed:

  •  Hurricane Sandy& the loss of Dr. Laurie’s home
  • Are storms are manufactured?
  • Can we eliminate droughts forever? If so, how?
  • The Science of Superstorms
  • Can we eliminate catostrophic damage due to a storm?
  • What lies ahead? If Hurricane Irene prepared people for Hurricane Sandy, what do you think Hurricane Sandy is preparing us for?
Please listen to the entire interview here, and decide for yourselves.

Further discussion:

Jack Smith has a theory on how we can avoid the flooding all together by means of   underground aqueducts and water catchments. In his own words, Jack stated that “What if we built underground dams, about a mile wide, a mile deep and a mile underground? The water from the flooded area would be siphoned into tunnels that would connect to the underground reservoirs, where it would be processed into usable water for farms, human, and livestock consumption,” he said. “This would save water and prevent the towns from being flooded again.”

Jack Smith, was  interviewed by the Huffington Post in an article entitledCan Hurricane Isaac Help the Drought? Jack has come up with an exceptional program that can help people in both flood and drought zones. Dr. Laurie Nadel  covered the marine environment for “The New York Times” Long Island section and fell in love Jack’s ideas. Together , the two of them are seeking to educate the public as well as seek public support.

Both guests discussed Hurricane Sandy, the loss of Dr. Laurie’s home, and the idea that storms are manufactured. But they also present SOLUTIONS overfear mongering impending doom scenarios . Jack Smith has a theory on how we can avoid the flooding all together by means of   underground aqueducts and water catchments. In his own words, Jack stated that “What if we built underground dams, about a mile wide, a mile deep and a mile underground? But try running this by congress? That is where the help of the public comes in, and they need your support!

Dr. Laurie and Jack Smith  are putting together a water reclamation project that in turn will need the public’s attention and support. They would like congress to back them on the project and implement a strategy to carry out a plan that would solve , not only the devastation of these new SUPERTORMS such as Hurricane’s Katrina and Sandy, but support a more sustainable idea for the protection of water for the world.
