NASA Announced Water On Mars Confirmed!

 

BREAKING NEWS: September 28, 2015

Is there life on Mars? Today, in an exciting news presentation, NASA scientists answered questions  to the long anticipated question “Is there life on Mars?” Scientists answered questions to both News outlets and Social Media that indeed, proof of water intermittently flows on the surface of Mars, a discovery that may have ramifications in the search for past or present life on the planet.

I watched the entire NASA presentation this morning and will answer some of the more interesting questions that were answered by NASA representatives and scientists. Unlike the usual formula used on earth to discover the truth (Follow the money), Mars scientist use a formula called “Follow the water. “ To their credit, they have found just that, flowing water.

“Our quest on Mars has been to ‘follow the water,’ in our search for life in the universe, and now we have convincing science that validates what we’ve long suspected,” said John Grunsfeld, astronaut and associate administrator of NASA’s Science Mission Directorate in Washington. “This is a significant development, as it appears to confirm that water — albeit briny — is flowing today on the surface of Mars.” 

Why is water so important?

According to an article by How Stuff Works, “Part of the reason is that we’ve never discovered an organism that’s proven otherwise. While some organisms need less than others — the cyanobacteria Chroococcidiopsis, for instance, needs so little water that biologists think it may be able to survive on the arid surface of Mars”

In other words, every organism that we know of needs water to survive. Fact is that without water, life on Earth would have never begun. Science shows us that it is indeed water that facilitated the formation of the planet’s first life forms, possibly even protecting them from the sun’s radiation.  

 

These dark, narrow, 100 meter-long streaks called recurring slope lineae flowing downhill on Mars are inferred to have been formed by contemporary flowing water. Recently, planetary scientists detected hydrated salts on these slopes at Hale crater, corroborating their original hypothesis that the streaks are indeed formed by liquid water. The blue color seen upslope of the dark streaks are thought not to be related to their formation, but instead are from the presence of the mineral pyroxene. The image is produced by draping an orthorectified (Infrared-Red-Blue/Green(IRB)) false color image (ESP_030570_1440) on a Digital Terrain Model (DTM) of the same site produced by High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (University of Arizona). The water streamed in from the northern and western sides of the crater, now marked by dried out channels, and eventually overflowed the crater’s southern wall, creating a third channel. Scientists do not know how long the water existed, though they do think there were at least two separate water events before the area dried out between 3.5 billion and 3.8 billion years ago. Chemical data collected by Mars orbiters show Jezero has clay and carbonate minerals that were altered by water. If life evolved during the time when Jezero was flush with water, it may be preserved in the sediments."

Tucked between a large volcano and an ancient impact basin is a region known as Nili Fossae, which is marked by wide, curved troughs cutting about 1,600 feet into the Martian crust. Nili Fossae is replete with clay-rich rocks, which form in the presence of water and which may be key to finding preserved organics. Nili Fossae was a top candidate for NASA’s ongoing Curiosity mission, but the site was cut due to engineering concerns. www.thetruthdenied.com

 

The following video is an  animation  which simulates a fly-around look at one of the places on Mars where dark streaks advance down slopes during warm seasons, possibly involving liquid water. This site is within Hale Crater. The streaks are roughly the length of a football field.

Ancient exposed bedrock and a diverse collection of hydratated minerals got this site a spot on the Mars 2020 candidate landing list. The targeted zone is located in the northeast part of Syrtis Major, a huge shield volcano and near the northwest rim of the giant impact basin Isidis Planitia.

In conclusion:

In anticipation of NASA’s ‘mystery announcement’, speculation and comments ramped up on social media sites this past week. Rumors were floating around the internet about the possible discovery of alien beings, and though the idea of life on Mars was discussed today, the word “alien” never came up. However, the idea that flowing water on Mars was indeed confirmed today, the news paves the way for  scientists to finally create a budget for future missions to mars, such as Mars 2020.In other words, funding will most likely happen, sooner than later.

Others are at Georgia Tech, the Southwest Research Institute in Boulder, Colorado, and Laboratoire de Planétologie et Géodynamique in Nantes, France. The agency’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, California manages the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter Project for NASA’s Science Mission Directorate, Washington. Lockheed Martin built the orbiter and collaborates with JPL to operate it.
